Early inhabitants, in their dreams for progressive living thought of making dugouts at the foot of the spring to make fishponds for fresh water fish culture. Headed by the leader, they group to do work. But their dugouts are deep not like the real fishponds these days. Fishes of different species were raised until neighboring people go to Ponong to buy fresh fish. Thus, the barangay got its name &#8220;PONONG&#8221; the Visayan term of fishponds. <\/span><\/span><\/p><p class=\"western\" lang=\"en-US\" align=\"justify\">\u00a0<\/p><p class=\"western\" lang=\"en-US\" align=\"justify\"><span style=\"font-family: Cambria, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">At present the fishponds of Ponong are no longer functional but are still found in place. Mythical version of how this place got its name was related by some older inhabitants.<\/span><\/span><\/p><p class=\"western\" lang=\"en-US\" align=\"justify\"><span style=\"font-family: Cambria, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">Ponong was headed by the voluntary officer during the order times it was still a part of Barangay San Antonio followed by the Cavesa de Barangay Benigno Perez through an election by hand raising. Cabesa de Barangay Valentin Tumala won that was 1954-1958. He was succeeded by Lorenzo Perez a short termed barangay officials 1958-1959.
